Here are some helpline services that may useful to you need medical help after hours:

Coronavirus

If you think you might have COVID-19 because of recent travel or contact with a confirmed case, phone the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline:

1800 671 738

If you haven’t travelled or had contact with confirmed case, phone your doctor or healthdirect Australia (1800 022 222). Protect others around you by washing your hands and keeping your distance.

For general information about Coronavirus, including the national response, call the National Coronavirus Information Line on 1800 020 080 (24 hours, 7 days). If you require translating or interpreting services, call 131 450.

Healthdirect Australia

If you don’t have a regular GP or they’re not available, you can still get medical advice by calling the free national medical helpline. You will be able to discuss your symptoms with a registered nurse who will provide advice.  If needed during the after hours period, you will be offered a call-back from a Tasmanian GP and may see an on-call doctor.

Lifeline

Support for anyone in Australia experiencing a personal crisis or thinking about suicide.

Mental Health Service Helpline

The Department of Health and Human Services' free helpline staffed by community mental health clinicians, able to provide advice, assessment and referral.

Poison Information Hotline

Provides the latest poisons information to the public.

RAW Tas (Rural, Alive and Well)

Focus on mental health and suicide prevention for Tasmanian individuals, families and communities - listening, providing information, support, service linking and strategies to help.

Mens Helpline

Telephone and online support and information service for Australian men.

Pregnancy, Birth & Baby

Supporting parents on the journey from pregnancy to preschool. Get the guidance and reassurance you need about developmental and behavioural concerns from their maternal child health nurses or talk to their counsellors for emotional support.

Beyondblue

Information and support to help everyone in Australia achieve their best possible mental health, whatever their age and wehrever they are.

1800RESPECT

National sexual assault, domestic family violence counselling service. Translation services are available - ask for an interpreter if you need one.

QLife

Counselling and referral service for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and/or intersex (LGBTI).

Sands

Support for anyone affected by the death of a baby to talk about their feelings.

SIDS and kids bereavement and support

Support for families who have experienced the sudden and unexpected death of a baby or child, during birth, pregnancy or infancy, regardless of the cause.

Kids Helpline

Phone and online counselling service for young people aged 5 to 25.

Suicide Call Back Service

Phone, video and online counselling for anyone affected by suicide.

Headspace

Early intervention mental health services for 12–25 year olds.

Breastfeeding Helpline

Support with questions or help with breastfeeding.

Healthdirect Australia

Symptom checker, medicines and health information.

MindSpot

Free service for Australian adults who are experiencing difficulties with anxiety, stress, depression and low mood. Provides online screening assessments and treatment courses, or can help find local services.

Butterfly Foundation

Support for those experiencing an eating disorder and want to talk to someone.
